Could Power Rangers benefit from a focused app?

The Power Rangers is an American kids' live-action show that started in 1993 with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers based on the Japanese Super Sentai, Zyuranger. The Power Rangers had many iterations of the colorful superheroes throughout the years with Zeo, Turbo, LightSpeed, Rpm, Ninja Steel, Beast Morphers, etc just to name a few (in no particular order ranger fans lol don’t hurt me).

With over 28 seasons and counting, this franchise built a huge following through toy sales, video games, comics, clothing, films, and its main media, the live-action show. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers were HUGE, Mighty even. They were a global leader in children’s entertainment. Live shows, meet and greets, they were Hollywood Royalty. You could not go anywhere in the 90s without hearing or seeing something about the Power Rangers.

Fast forward to 2020. The brand has had its share of ups and downs from its initial domination in popularity, but today it’s still a force to not be slept on. Thriving throughout the Saban era, Disney era, Neo (Saban), and now the Hasbro era, the Power Rangers are a resilient franchise that stands out in a very competitive market (Good or Bad, that’s for you to decide).

CHECK OUT OUR ARTICLE, DOES POWER RANGERS NEED TO EVOLVE

2020 has kicked off the streaming wars with Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Apple TV Plus, etc all vying for our hard-earned money. They each have major flagship shows/films that markets its platform with its original content as a driving force. Netflix as many original shows like 13 Reasons Why, HBO Max has the upcoming Friends Reunion, Apple TV Plus has the Morning Show, and Disney Plus having the Avengers spinoff shows & The Mandalorian. Each of these services has major studios supporting them, licensing their content.

With that being said, Power Rangers are on Netflix (Thank You) with all past and current seasons (future seasons TBA). Now the question is, for how long. Currently, the show airs on Nickelodeon through its current contract but that's soon to be up so that leaves us with, will they renew or find a new home. The way films and shows are being consumed today is very different than those of the past. We are all on the go and we choose to intake our media on the go. That means our phones are our main form of consumption. The media industry has changed and maybe, just maybe, Power Rangers could benefit from a change in the way we view it.

“The Ranger Vault” ;) can be an APP where you can view all seasons of the Show with future seasons airing directly on it. Films, animated shows, mobile games, comics, music (PR theme songs), fan-created content, etc, think of the possibilities. A Power Rangers focused app could help the brand grow in so many ways. But that’s up to Hasbro now.

Anyway, this post has gone on for too long already. I can chat about Power Rangers for years without pause lol. Let us know your thoughts below.
